Goal of the project
The project aims to improve the protection and sustainable management of the Monument of Nature Lake Dojran by strengthening governance, restoring degraded habitats and improving ecological monitoring and stakeholder engagement.
Project activities
The project contains 3 Components:
• Strengthening governance and management of the protected area, including establishment of a Management Body and Ranger Service within the Municipality of Dojran and development of sustainable financing mechanisms.
• Conservation and restoration of the lake ecosystem, including monitoring of water quality, fish populations and biodiversity, restoration of degraded reed habitats and preparation of a nature-based wastewater treatment solution for the village of Nikolić.
• Stakeholder engagement and cooperation, including stakeholder dialogues, support to the Scientific and Stakeholder Councils, public awareness activities and cooperation with stakeholders from Greece.
